Former student of University of Education,Winneba has disclosed that university of education and training college students are timid and even fear to post on their own social media walls issues worrying them in their various institutions.
The alumnus revealed that colleges & universities of education train their students to be timid and unable to speak up when it matters most.He also asked if the school is even aware of the 1992 constitution of Ghana(Freedom of Speech and Expression).
This is all he posted.
“Many times i wonder why our colleges & universities of education train their students to be timid and unable to speak up when it matters most.
For instance, the students handbook of UEW prohibits any student to speak to the media on any matter relating to the university and this has created a kind of fear and timidity in some students to the extend that many cant even get the confidence to write on their own social media walls expressing their opinions on matters let alone grant interviews to the media in this day and age.
I wonder if the school is even aware the 1992 constitution of Ghana guarantees freedom of speech and expression.
I recall, sometime in 2014 when my big brother Wilson Dabuo was the then SRC president an incident happened (a student committed suicide) and he was called by one media house where he granted an interview as a student leader to speak to the issue and guess what? He was vehemently reprimanded for that singular act. Ridiculous you say! Many examples abound to corroborate this.
Even some lecturers are scared to speak to the media, except of course the few maverick ones. We have heard of several media reports on how students in teacher training colleges are maltreated but they dare not open up for the fear of victimisation. Antiquated traditions we have in our hands. Today my darling UEW is grasping for air to breath but no one is coming to their aid, the students/alumni expected to stand in solidarity with management have all been ‘whipped’ into silence and shrivel.

How on earth could a sea of academicians allow themselves to be ‘roughly screwed’ by a fisherman? Went ahead to close down the whole college and all its campuses. Like seriously? When some students revolted against their SRC leadership earlier this year for poor organisation of SRC week celebrations, i warned that management had to sit up and do the right thing else they may be the next target but little did i know an outsider was preparing to ‘finger’ them with peril. laughable.
